With the holidays fast-approaching, lots of people are starting to make their travel plans and even plan their menus, especially for Thanksgiving. There even seem to be more parties than usual at work. It seems to be the season for eating! Probably one of the trickiest parts of bringing homemade meals and treats on the road is figuring out how to package them so that they’ll stay the right temperature or not slide all over the car and become an unrecognizable mess. That’s the beauty of owning portable cookware and bakeware like this handy Pyrex Portable 4 Piece Nonstick Bakeware Set.

I really like that its a Pyrex nonstick baking pan set . Being made by a well-known name like Pyrex you know that it’s going to last and that the manufacturer will stand by its product. This particular 4 piece portable set includes: a medium-size cookie pan, an oblong pan measuring 9″ x 13″, a 12 cup Muffin Pan and snug fitting plastic cover. The plastic lid will fit both oblong and muffin pan making it easy to carry your cake or cupcakes anywhere you need to. I think this set would also make a great gift for anyone who loves to bake!

If you can’t decide between making a peach pie or a peach crisp, make a Deep Dish Peaches dessert instead. Imagine a bubbly hot fruit casserole under a golden brown crust. The idea is similar to an old fashioned chicken pot pie. But with peaches instead! I keep the ingredients simple, using a basic pie crust recipe for the topping and canned peaches with the juice reserved. The only spice I use is nutmeg, which adds a nice background flavor to the sweetness of the peaches. A little lemon helps give it a little tangy flavor, too. This is the kind of dessert that looks and tastes very homemade-old-fashioned style. Don’t be too careful with the crust topping, leaving a few holes in fact, so it looks homey and some of the juice bubbles up and marks the top.

Oftentimes, I find canned fruit on sale at my local grocery store. That’s when having a few frugal fruit recipes handy pays off. When I get home with my grocery store find, I want to quickly whip up something for dessert so I can pat myself on the back for a job well done!

I realized today that my kitchen tool drawer is a bit of a mess. I went to grab my whisk to make an egg omelet for our family breakfast and found I had to first untangle it from my ice cream scooper. Then when I was ready to flip the omelet, I just couldn’t find my nylon spatula anywhere. Well it turns out that somewhere along the way the spatula had ended up in the drawer with the kitchen place mats and pot holders. Surely there has got to be a better way to function. I think it’s time I actually bought something that will make my tasks easier, like this ECKO 8 Piece Stainless Steel Kitchen Tool Set.

I think this set will be perfect for me, especially since it comes in a caddy I can just place on my kitchen counter top near the stove. It includes a long handled spatula, a basting spoon, a slotted spoon, a pasta server, a whisk, a flat hand grater and an ice cream scoop, plus the caddy. I like it’s modern styling and the fact they’re made of easy-to-care-for stainless steel. They’re the kind of cooking utensils I know I’ll use all of the time.

A traditional baked ham can seem sort of dull after you try this slow cooker honey glazed ham. The twist is actually using lemon lime soda! Combine that unique ingredient with the traditional glaze of honey, mustard, cloves, and cinnamon and you’ve got yourself a whole new kind of ham dinner. When your family sees you pouring lemon lime soda into the crock pot they may think you’ve gone a little bonkers, but not after they taste the results. If you haven’t tried cooking with soda yet, this may be the recipe to give it a whirl.

With all the slowcooker dishes out there, how do you know what to try? Start with a traditional recipe like baked ham. Look for the recipe that most closely resembles something that you have tried in the past, like the glaze. Now, the fun part is the little unusual step or ingredient that makes the meal a new crock pot classic. Also, to begin cooking with a crock pot, try recipes that use fewer ingredients. That way you’ll be able to easily tell what you did or did not like in the dish, and tweak the recipe accordingly.

There is nothing better than a big bowl of homemade chili and cornbread on a cold fall day. While there are just as many recipes for this bean dish as there are cooks, here’s my favorite chili recipe. It’s fast and easy and you can easily modify the types of beans and spices you use to suit your taste. I like to start mine early in the day so it can simmer on the stove for a few hours before we eat it. This allows all the flavors to blend. In fact, my husband things it’s even better warmed up the next day.

Like most bean recipes, you can easily refrigerate or freeze this dish and get it back out a few weeks later for a quick dinner or lunch. You can also make a pot of chili with ground turkey or leave out the meat altogether. I would just add a few more beans in that case. Chickpeas are also really good in chili. Experiment a bit with the types of meat and beans you use and of course the amount and types of spices you use to come up with your own, unique version of this popular dish.
